About Narita

Narita is best known internationally as home to Narita International Airport, a major hub for international flights into Japan.

However, the city itself has a history that predates its air travel role by centuries.

At the heart of Narita lies Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, founded in 940 CE, where visitors can observe traditional rituals and seasonal festivals. The city’s streets around the temple provide a glimpse of Edo-period architecture and local eateries specializing in unagi (grilled eel), a regional specialty. Springtime brings cherry blossoms along the Naritasan Park paths, while autumn is marked by colorful maple leaves and cooler temperatures.
